    Hello
I just wanted to let you know how pleased I am that I found your products. I feel like I am hunting when I check my trail camera. I have been hunting for 30 years and I like to use scents. Of course I always used stuff on shelves from different stores. You have made a customer out of me. I will not purchase any more scents on a shelf ever. The pics I have gotten already from my camera while applying your scents have me so pumped for this coming season. Thanks for what you do. Angel Moreno .

If you have used Smokey’s gland scents, like preorbital gland, to bag a nice buck or two, please call me at (517) 290-6471. I’m doing a story for Petersen’s Bowhunting on how to use these types of scents and I’d like to get some real-world tips from hunters. Thanks.

What is the difference between Wicked Wick and the Pre-orbital lure? Thank you

      • smokeyadm May 28, 2017 at 10:00 pm Permalink

The Wicked Wicks is a 4 buck compound & the pre-orbital is one single buck.

  6. Luke August 30, 2014 at 2:33 pm Permalink

Once the seal is broken after the first use of your scents how do you store them? Do you keep them in the fridge? How long will they keep for?

    Thanks,

    Luke

    • smokeyadm August 31, 2014 at 1:39 pm Permalink

      Luke,
The gland lures i.e.: Preorbital gland lures,Tarsal, Interdigital & Forehead gland Lures should not be refrigerated. Just keep in a cool place out of sunlight.
The urine or estrus based lures i.e.: RutnBuck & Doe in Heat Lures should be stored in the refrigerator or a cool, dark place.
All lures will last at least 5 years.

Could you email the use of you scents, the wicked wick what is that used for. I would like to make a licking branch starting now what to use? Also a mock scrape also looking for a lure to get some buck trail cam pics, any other info you call give me I thank you.
    Greg

    • smokeyadm September 13, 2014 at 9:02 am Permalink

      Greg,
Each of our products on the website have a fairly detailed description of the product & how it is used. For your licking branch I recommend “Smokey’s Pre-Orbital Gland Lure” & for your scrape or mock scrape you can use “Smokey’s Interdigital Gland Lure”. The difference between Wicked Wicks & Preorbital Gland lure is the Wicked Wicks is a special compound made from 4 different bucks. It is used on a rope or licking branch & will attract due to other bucks believing there is more buck activity at that spot. The Preorbital Gland lure is made from one specific buck. Hope this helps answer your question.

  9. Josh September 17, 2014 at 11:26 pm Permalink

How many ounces of scent are in the wicked wicks compound? I remember reading the article on your product, but forget what the gentlemen that wrote the article said about the rope. I can’t remember if he said to put a rubber band on it or something like that. It has been a while ago, but I would like to try it out this year. Could you help me fill in my blanks and do you think it is better or worse to add a scrape under the rope. I only am targeting big bucks if that makes a difference ( I know I often recommend different things for quantity of deer over quality).

    • smokeyadm September 18, 2014 at 11:01 am Permalink

      Josh,
There is about 4.25 ounces in the “Wicked Wicks”. You can use a plastic wire tie on the rope. Also, It will increase site appeal if you put a scrape below it. Hope this helps! Also, if you have any questions or would like to speak to me directly, I take calls on Wednesday evening from 8-9 pm (EST) @ (304)564-4087

      Good Luck & Happy Hunting!

    Smokey,
I hunt in Alabama. Please recommend what lures you would use in this area. i know your not necessarily familiar with area but in general. I’m also headed to Iowa in the beginning of the rut and would like to know what to use.
thanks so much for your help
    Jay

    • smokeyadm September 22, 2014 at 10:40 pm Permalink

      Jay,
All of my lures will work in any part of the country. For your hunting in Alabama, the difference will be the heat & evaporation rate of the products. Make a licking branch by peeling back about 8″ of branch, crush & douse thoroughly (at least a dropperful) of Smokey’s Preorbital Gland Lure. This will increase site appeal. Also, tear up the ground under your licking branch & make a mock scrape using Smokey’s Buck interdigital Gland Lure.
To hunt in early season Iowa, I recommend Smokey’s Preorbital Gland Lure on a mock scrape or licking branch & Smokey’s Doe in Heat on a drag rag.

      Happy Hunting!

    Hello Smokey,
I’ve used your products for the last two years with great success. a 139 P&Y in 2012 and a 140P&Y in 2013. I got great pictures of bucks working the treated scrapes and licking branches with my trailcams.
My questions goes back to the use of the rope, mentioned by Josh. I”m interested in trying that this season if you can give more details like; What kind of rope, how long, how thick, any special treatment to remove the smell of the rope and how is it attached to the tree, etc.

Hey Smokey!! Got your message about your outdoor days at Rogers!! Sounds great. Although I will not be able to put on a calling contest due to the fact that it is not contest season at that time and I could not get enough participant. What I have done though is reserved the “Take Aim Trailer” for those days. It is a self contained BB gun range donated by Harry Potterfield from Midway US Arms and the NWTF. It is a great attraction for kids and adults. Always a big hit!! All free. I can also set up a site for turkey callin and more. The only thing is we cannot pay for a spot because we have no funds. If you can open up 2 spots for our trailer and booth we will put this on for no cost. Let me know.

What do you recommend for proper storage of the deer lures?

    • smokeyadm September 29, 2015 at 9:52 pm Permalink

Store in a cool dark (or at least out of direct sunlight) place for best storage!

  15. Alan October 25, 2015 at 11:05 am Permalink

I would like to know how long the Pre-orbital gland will remain viable in storage? And can it be stored in a refrigerator? Also, do you accept phone orders?

    • smokeyadm November 12, 2015 at 6:20 am Permalink

The lures can be kept indefinitely! However, do not refrigerate! Keep in a cool place out of direct sunlight! Phone orders can only be placed by mailing a check, we do not accept credit card orders over the phone!
      Thanks!

I purchased your Pre-Orbital Gland lure from Wright Archery in Quebec last year. I made the mistake of storing it in my basement fridge. Is it still good or should i throw it out and buy another bottle? Love your picture at the bottom of your contact page, West Virginia looks just like the Eastern townships here in Quebec.
    Thank you.

    • smokeyadm November 12, 2015 at 6:18 am Permalink

Pre-Orbital or any lure made from glands should not be refrigerated. The reason is that when you remove it from the coldness of a refrigerator moisture can form inside the bottle (condensation), this can dilute the potency of the lure! It should be stored in a “cool” place away from direct sunlight!

I plan to set up a few mock scrapes using “wicked wicks” this season. I was wondering what your thoughts are on coating the ropes with bees wax and injecting the scent into the end of it. The idea is that any rain would be shed off BEFORE it could dilute the scent. what do you think. Thanks

    • smokeyadm July 7, 2016 at 2:48 pm Permalink

It won’t hurt to try out your theory. My suggestion would be to leave the bottom few inches of the rope open & frayed. Let me know how it works for you!

Smokey, I hope you still remember me?I live in Coos Bay, Oregon.I talked with you by phone, you ended up sending Tarsal,pre-orbital,and interdigital lures. You also sent very good advice with them. You wanted to know how they worked on blacktails,so let me tell you that I can attest to the fact that not only will it work with blacktails, but they showed more interest in your lure than any other bar-none.I have used many brands, some were labeled for blacktail, but none had good results.I highly urge all pacific northwest hunters to see for your self how these products work.Smokey, I will send you photos of mature bucks only using your scents, thank you Smokey, your brother from the mountains in the west.

    Hey Smokey,
I was just at your Outdoor Show in Rogers Community Auction in Rogers Ohio. I purchased several of your lures and the book, Secrets of Using Pre-orbital Gland Lure by Steve Sorensen, from your Rep there. He was an older gentleman and told me he was 75 yrs old but I missed his name. My dilemma is when he put my lures in the bag he did not include the book. When I got home and was storing the lures I discovered the book was not in the bag. Could you please send out a copy in the mail to me? Please Let me know how we can rectify this unfortunate mistake.
    P.S. Really love the lures.

    Regards,

Hi smokey need some heip. Live and hunt in northern vermont and hunt on public land. Seem to only see small bucks and does. What should I do to try and draw bigger bucks in the area?

    • smokeyadm October 12, 2016 at 10:00 pm Permalink

Hi Ricky! Now is the time to start your prehunt! If you can find an existing scrape from last season, you can activate it by using Buck Tarsal Gland Lure & RutnBuck on the scrape. Also, you can make a licking branch using Buck Pre-Orbital Gland Lure to bring in the big bucks. Keep in mind that the inventory of larger bucks may be depleted as you are hunting on public land with many hunters. Lastly, if the weather is colder, you will need to increase the amount of lure that you use. Happy Hunting!

    Thank you,
    CURT

    • smokeyadm October 12, 2016 at 9:56 pm Permalink

      Hi Curt!
Yes, you can order on the phone, however when ordering by phone, we do not accept credit cards. You would have to send a check in the mail which would slow down your order. It is much faster to order on the website. As far as doctoring your scrape, Smokey recommends Pre-Orbital Gland Lure on a licking branch. Also, for early season use Buck tarsal or RutnBuck in your scrape. You can use Doe in Heat on a drag rag to your site. Happy Hunting!

I have used Smokey’s products for 2 years, and bow killed 2 18″ bucks in hardy co Wva. On public land. These size bucks are pretty rare here, and I have found smokey’s doe in heat to be excellent to bring them in. I have sent pictures in to Smokey’s but they never got posted, these were 2 nice 120 class bucks, that would make any hunter on public land happy.

    Hey Smokey
I want to tell you I had great success with the wick compound last year and wound up getting the buck I killed on camera coming to the a couple days before lure. Question: A topic floating around is CWD and urine based scents. is there any concern about spreading the disease with preorbital gland? How do you all protect your product from this. I know this is a complicated question but thought it was worth asking. I am planning on continuing using your products whether you can answer or not. Thanks
